It’s only recently that I have been able to look back at my own journey into parent hood and have been able to smile. I have a different perspective now and can be so proud of how far I’ve come.
When I first had my daughter though, I would constantly look to the past and think about all the “If only’s’”. If only I had said this, if only I had done that, if only things had happened differently. I used to torture myself endlessly thinking about the past and everything that had come before.
My early days of parenting were a haze. Not just due to the demands of looking after a newborn but I spent so much time reminiscing about the past and beating myself up mentally and emotionally for all the things that “should” have happened differently, it really robbed me of the precious moments that were happening right then and there.
We all have fond memories that we cherish and being able to remember them is what makes life beautiful. Just don’t get so caught up regretting things from the past that it robs you of today. As much as we sometimes would like to, we can’t change the past. The only moment we truly have control over is the one that is happening right now.
Only look back to see how far you’ve come. I assure you Mumma, it’s a very long way and a journey to be proud of. xx
